How to care for your Candle
Did you know candles require a little bit of extra care for optimal use and longevity? Here are our basic tips for enjoying your FLAME Candle:
TRIM THE WICK
Before lighting always trim the wick to around 4-6mm. If this is not the first burn, you may notice a ‘mushroom’ effect at the end of the wick. Trim this and ensure all wick debris is removed to ensure an even burn.
PREVENT MEMORY RINGS
As with all candles, the first burn is the most important. If the candle is not allowed to liquefy to the edge of its jar or tin, a ‘memory ring’ will be created, thus creating a ‘tunnel’ for the life of the candle. If you are burning your candle for the first time, make sure you allow long enough for it to burn to the edge.
AVOID DRAUGHTS
Candles burn best in still air, however if you can’t avoid draughts, turn the candle every so often to prevent uneven burning, possible one sided collapses and smoking.
BURN TIME
Ensure candles are only burnt for a maximum time of 4 hours. Burning for longer can cause the wick to become unstable and the flame to get too large, creating wax pool fires. Always allow a candle to return to room temperature for at least 2 hours before relighting.
STORAGE
Candle wax and essential oils are sensitive to light and temperature. Avoid fading, cracking and melting by storing them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight or intense light. Store in an upright position and do not leave in a hot car for an extended amount of time.
SAFETY
Always burn candles away from flammable objects and other heat sources, and ensure they are out of reach of children and pets. Never leave a burning candle unattended.
